We are very proud to be a non-profit social venture. We believe in using the “business” of yoga to better the lives of the less fortunate. This is why since day one we decided to invest everything we make back into the community that warmly welcomed us here in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We welcome our Yoga Teacher Training students to visit our water wells, as well as a Karma exchange program to stay a few days after the teacher training program to actively take part in digging a well or helping out for our women’s training education program.
OUR VISION FOR TAVOOS
Tavoos was conceptualised by a family of like-minded individuals from Canada, The Netherlands and Cambodia. Although each came from different walks of life, they shared an equal passion for yoga, wellness and humanitarian giving. The Tavoos family shares one vision: “Access to wellness is a basic human right, not a privilege to only those who can afford it.”
Tavoos is a center for yoga, meditation, arts, dance, ancient martial arts, as well as a place to indulge the taste buds and spoil the body with nutrition, midst its lush tropical garden.
By offering daily free yoga classes, weekly wellness & cultural retreats, as well as Yoga Teacher Training Courses, Tavoos has become the most beloved venue in South East Asia.
GIVING 100% BACK
Let’s not forget the most important reason why Tavoos is so unique: As a non-profit, social venture, 100% of proceeds from Teacher Training Courses and Retreats goes back into our humanitarian programs. Tavoos is not a commercialised, profit-driven venture. We are here to invest in the local community through clean water and education. As well, to make our guests from all parts of the world feel at home. While providing the most professional wellness classes and courses.
HOW WE ARE STRUCTURED
The team behind Tavoos consists of dedicated yoga & wellness teachers, as well as individuals with 20+ years experience in the humanitarian world. Our group is a diverse group of Canadians, Dutch and Cambodians. Unlike typically structured non-profit organisations, none of our co-founders or directors get paid. Only our Khmer (Cambodian) staff is paid. All revenue after staff salaries, rent and utility is put towards our water well program and women’s education program.
Our marketing expenses and other administrative expenses are all covered by our co-founders. All of these professional behind the scenes services are donated by our non-Cambodian team:
- Web design
- Hosting services
- Legal consultation
To give you an example of how we spend. Cost of a water well is $500. Breakdown:
- Digging labour & parts $360
- Food & transport for workers $30
- Water testing $100
- Signage with donor name $10
- Photos & GPS marking $0
- Maintenance & follow up $0
- Hygiene education $0
$500 is donated, $500 is spent. Very simple. There are no “overhead” expenses.
CREATION OF TAVOOS
Watch how Tavoos came to life. It took nearly one year from a vision, to drawing the plans, until construction.
What a magical night it was, in December 2017. So much laughter, so much love, so much art.
